We are often told as children that the sky is the limit, that we can accomplish whatever we put our mind to. In the workforce more often than not, minorities and women will work hard, become over qualified for a position; but despite their efforts, do not achieve the promotion. They hit what is known as a “Glass Ceiling.” Historically minorities and women were discriminated against, when it came to promotions in the workplace. It was very hard, if not impossible for them to achieve higher management positions. Although today there are more women and minority leader representation, that idea of a “Glass Ceiling” continues to exist in the work environment. However, the image of the “workplace” is evolving; companies now are striving for diversity within their staff. Opportunities of having a leadership position within a company are more available to women and minorities than they have ever been, and NOMAS wants to celebrate that.
